When
my older son brought all his favorite baseball t-shirts to me and asked me to
make a t-shirt quilt, I needed help. Not only had I never made a quilt before,
I don’t sew, am not crafty, not a DIY person, and am not very creative. But,
(and that is a big but!) I loved my son very much and wanted to do what he
asked. I also thought it was funny and motivating that he thought I could just
whip out a t-shirt quilt for him.
So,
I googled t-shirt quilting classes in my area, and luckily there was one that
started the next week. It was humbling to bring my sewing machine that I
received as a high school graduation gift, and my complete lack of knowledge
and skill to the quilting class, to sit among quilting experts with thousand
dollar machines. But, I persevered. The instructor was thorough, and even
showed me the very basics of my sewing machine, like how to thread it, and what
setting to use. (I know, it’s hard to believe I knew so little!)
She
explained in detail, and in pictures how to make a t-shirt quilt. That was all
the quilting experts needed and they set off in a sewing frenzy. Me? She asked
if I had any questions and I didn’t even know where to begin. I could not think
of one question because, well, I didn’t
know what I didn’t know. Thankfully, she took me by the hand and showed me step-by-step,
measuring and cutting the first squares, pinning the first few together,
helping me choose fabric, and sewing the first seams so I could easily follow
her lead.
When
we start something new we usually need help learning the basics. Many of us
have never heard the Lord speak personally to us, but we really want to have a
closer relationship with Him. Today is the perfect day. Sundays, around our
country, and the world, Pastors study and pray and then bring a message that explains, illuminates and simplifies what
God’s Word has to say to us. If you haven’t heard from God after following
the 7 G's of Hearing God from yesterday’s post, find a Bible teaching church and attend this
morning. You will be inspired, motivated and hopefully hear from the Lord, in a
way you might not have otherwise.
Hebrews 10:25 -
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but
encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Romans 10:17 –
Faith comes by hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word
of Christ.
Today is the perfect day to hear from God.

ReplyDeleteWaiting to hear from God today- I will let you know! ;)
Thanks Michele! Had I known Ashton was a master seamstress and quilter extraordinaire I would have sent the shirts to her. :) Blessings to you today!
DeleteI am so proud of you. I'm also impressed! I have all of my husband's Hawaiian shirts that I would love to make lap quilts for the kids to remember their Dad who moved to Heaven three years ago. You inspire me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen! If I could do it, seriously, anyone can do it. What a wonderful memory that would be for them.
DeleteGreat encouragement to find a church that teaches God's Word so we can learn! (Love the quilt!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dianne!
DeleteWhat a beautiful story! I love that your son figured you could make a quilt--that shows how much confidence he has in mom! I agree that meeting together is a good idea--we can learn from each other, encourage each other, and yes, hear God speak through our like-minded friends.
