Hearing God When Making Decisions

(This is part of a month long series called 31 Days of Hearing God. To read other posts on this topic click here.)
                                      **********************************

A friend of mine was part of a women’s ministry. One day the Director of the organization asked her to meet for coffee. My friend had a strong feeling the woman was going to ask her to take over as the new Director. Sure enough, as they were having coffee the woman asked my friend to be the new Director, since she was retiring. My friend was open to accepting the position, but was not sure how her husband would respond. He was not thrilled when she was asked to volunteer in the organization, and now she was asked to be the Director over the large ministry. The two women agreed to pray for the Lord to soften her husband’s heart.
My friend drove away from the meeting praying.
“Lord, you need to be very near to me. I need to be very near to you.”
When she arrived home, she sat down to read her Bible wanting the Lord to speak clearly to her so she would know for certain what He wanted her to do. She opened her concordance and looked up the word ‘near.'  She thought she would read all the verses that had to do with God being near to us. The first verse in the concordance was Jeremiah 30:21. It says:
“Their leader will be one of their own, and will arise from among them. I will bring him near and he will come close to me, for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me.

My friend felt God’s confirmation from this verse. She was becoming the leader “from among them.” She prayed for God to be near to her and this verse confirmed that He would.
Two days went by and she did not mention anything to her husband.
On the third day he asked her, “How did the meeting with the Director go the other day?”
She said it went well and told him she was offered the Director position.
He said, “I think that would be a neat thing for you to do.”
God answered both her prayers and gave her confirmation through His Word.
Isn’t it great when we receive a clear answer to our question through the Bible? Because the Bible is living and active it is applicable today.
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29: 12-13
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

  6. I love hearing these stories, because we all probably also have those stories where we looked into the scriptures and found nothing that fits...or am I the only one! It's so great to remember God answers, just not always the way we think He should, but always the best way!

    1. I agree Carol. I am working on a post about how we sometimes miss when God speaks, or we get it wrong. Because that has happened to me too. Then what do we do?
