The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. Adventure.
Fantasy. Escape. Interesting characters. Music. And of course a witch! What
more could you ask for in a great movie?
For those who haven’t seen it, the movie is about the
journey Dorothy takes to the Land of Oz. At the beginning of the movie Dorothy
is bored and disheartened in her black and white dreary farmhouse in Kansas.
After a fantastic tornado lifts her house up she lands in the colorful Land of
Oz. She meets a welcoming group of little people called munchkins. They want to
make Dorothy their queen since her house fell on an evil witch who had been
tormenting the town.
After living in the black and white dust bowl of Kansas,
you would think Dorothy would click up her heels with joy when she arrived in
the magical land over the rainbow. But almost as soon as she arrives the only
thing she can think about is getting back home to Kansas.
She has an adventurous journey attempting to return to
her family. Yet, the whole time she is in Oz, even after meeting three great
friends, seeing beautiful sights and encountering unbelievable characters, her
focus is completely on returning to Kansas.
The movie is amazing, but I do feel for Dorothy because
her focus was on her final destination, she doesn’t seem to enjoy her journey
through Oz. She is laser focused on getting back to Kansas and nothing is going
to stop her. Being so focused on her destination, she doesn’t take time to
enjoy the amazing Land of Oz all around her.
Isn’t that how we can be? I know I can be that way, so
focused on my destination I forget to enjoy the journey the Lord has me on.
For this 31 day series in October, I want to share ways
we can live in the moment, not be so focused on the end result and have more Joy
in the Journey called Life we are all on.
May
the God of hope fill you with all JOY and peace as you trust in Him,
so
that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:13
Joyfully,
Looking forward to it as usual!
ReplyDeleteI love spiritual lessons in movies. Have you ever watched the movie about the Kroods? (I think that's the correct name).
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't heard of that Susan. Is that the title? I will google it.
