Update on Birth Mother and Twins

This is the last day of Our Adoption Adventure. THANK YOU to everyone    who read and left encouraging comments. I appreciate it.  If you missed some of it, click here to start reading from the beginning.

Our Adoption Adventure took place fifteen years ago.  After reading this series, several people asked how Emma is doing today. I am happy to say she is doing great.
We prayed everyday God would bless her and provide for her and He has. I called her several times a week the first few months after the delivery. I wanted to know how she was doing and she wanted to know how the babies were doing.
She reconciled with her family and moved back home within a couple of months. The first year was rough on her. We arranged for her to visit the babies and me several times. I wasn’t sure if that was helpful for her or not. She was happy to see them, and proud of how well they were doing.
Over the years I sent letters, pictures and video of the boys twice a year.  She sent a couple of cards and a letter, complementary of us and positive she made the right decision. Today she is happily married, received her GED and attended school for a professional job she loves. We are so happy she is doing well.
Our boys are in high school now. They are very much like the rest of our family. They like the things we like and we do lots of things together as a family. They love going to Disneyland. They went with us to Israel this year and loved it, and like our other kids, they would love to go again. (You can read about that trip here.)
They don’t talk about their adoption or ask very many questions. We told them from the beginning what a wonderful birth mother they had and how much she loved them. They are mostly consumed with typical church and high school activities. They know God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their lives.

  3. How wonderful for Emma! I can't imagine what kind of turmoil placing a child can have in a young woman's life--especially one where the family is so connected. Open adoption can sometimes be difficult but so worth it for our "babies" and for our birth mothers. If your kiddos are ever curious, it's good to have that line of communication open too. It has been wonderful reading your story!

  5. Thank you for sharing Robyn. What an emotional rollercoaster you both had to ride, but you listened to what God put on your heart and stayed faithful to his promises. You are such an inspiration. And such a happy ending! I enjoyed reading all about this journey!

  6. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful story! I've loved reading through it! I wanted to share, for myself and perhaps for others out there reading who might have stories like mine...not every adoption story turns out so "pretty"...sometimes the birth moms have intensely difficult life situations. Sometimes open adoptions are tough to navigate despite good intentions on both sides. Sometimes kids who are adopted struggle with identity and behavior and emotional issues. However, these adoptions are STILL ordained by God and still very much a gift from Him! At times He gives us amazing gifts, and challenges are part of the equation too, but I still believe the child is a beautiful and amazing gift from God.

    1. Yes, I agree Sara. I have heard other stories that did not end as well as ours. I didn't feel like I could address that part of adoption, since that has not been my experience. Did you write about your experience? I would love to read yours as well.

  7. Robyn, it is so great that you have this all written down, and you did such a great job! I had not known or remembered all the twists and turns of your journey. I love that you continually referenced how God was at the center of it all. Great miniseries :) Congratulations!

  8. Hi Robyn. Thank you for inviting me to read your 31 Day Writing Series. I loved it! I love how God was so faithful to you and your family and confirmed that you heard Him correctly. I know that Tina and Shiya were all part of God's plan for you. My heart broke for Tina as she is apparently a struggling soul. I do wonder where she is now. I'm praying for her! I know that you greatly blessed both of those women though the pain you went through was great.
And I loved Emma's story and how encouraging, supportive and respectful you and your husband were to her too. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to make that choice to allow you child(ren) to be adopted. But she made a smart choice for those precious boys who have brought you and your family so much joy! I love that though they are adopted, it doesn't matter. They are family!
Oh how I loved reading this story. I loved seeing God working through this entire journey. I loved seeing your struggles overcome by faith and God's precious word. Thanks for sharing your beautiful journey!

    Blessings-
    Christine
